Smith County Freedom

Behind these bars, I cannot sleep;
Only now, your memory I keep.
Counting time by days, not hours;
Not minutes, not seconds, not even showers.
I see no stars, I see no moon;
Hoping only, to return home soon.

Somewhere deep inside, I feel to shout;
Twisting and pulling my insides out.
Nothing soft, just stone and steel;
Cold and hard, blood to spill.
My mind, it runs to be outside;
Confined to chains, this life I ride.

Alone in this bunk, I watch and wait;
Silently wishing, to end this fate.
One day soon, I’ll leave this place;
And cast my eyes upon your face.
Never again do I want to return;
For my fateful lesson has been learned.

In your arms, once again I’ll be;
Taken for granted, that feeling of free.
